AdventHealth Littleton – Three Wishes Program
AdventHealth Littleton recognized the importance of improving the quality of the dying experience and implemented the Three Wishes Program (TWP). TWP is a compassionate, palliative care initiative designed to honor the dignity of dying patients in the ICU by fulfilling small wishes for them and their families. The goal of the program is to provide personalized, emotional support and connection during this difficult time.
Patients and their families can choose up to three wishes from a predetermined list that are personal and meaningful, ranging from playing favorite music to creating keepsakes, such as a lock of hair or a fingerprint.
Successes include the following:
- Patients and families have found value in the comfort and closure the program provides.
- Nurses have been able to connect with patients and families in new and meaningful ways.
- The program has proven beneficial to health care workers as well, providing support in processing death and loss with compassion and professionalism.
- The program has expanded beyond the ICU to all areas of the hospital.
