AdventHealth Parker – Emergency Department: Rapid Assessment Zones
AdventHealth Parker sought to enhance ED throughput and reduce the number of patients leaving without being seen by a provider. As a result, Rapid Assessment Zones (RAZs) were implemented in the ED.
RAZs represent a shift from the traditional triage process and are made possible by a multi-disciplinary team including providers, nurses, radiology and other key staff. The primary goals of RAZs are to reduce patient wait times in the ED and enhance the overall patient experience.
Successes include the following:
- ED diversion status decreased from an average of 29 hours to nine hours per month.
- Time from patient admission to disposition decreased by an average of 12 minutes.
- Time from patient admission to provider evaluation decreased by an average of six minutes.
- Percentage of patients leaving without being seen was reduced to 0.53%.
