Media Statement of Support for Senate Bill 25-071
DENVER, COLO. – April 17, 2025 –
The call for a no vote on Senate Bill (SB) 25-071 is just the latest in a series of tactics organized by Big Pharma to mislead legislators and spread falsehoods about the 340B program. This is an unfortunate but familiar pattern of behavior for pharmaceutical companies across the country who are attempting to maximize profits at the expense of patients and communities.
“Senate Bill 25-071 has been meticulously negotiated in good faith to ensure that the 340B program continues to stretch scarce resources – as intended by Congress – for the benefit of patients, the communities they live in, and the hospitals that provide their care,” said Jeff Tieman, president and CEO of Colorado Hospital Association. “The fact-free narrative being pushed by Big Pharma is harmful to the very people it is claiming to defend. Even a cursory review of the bill shows that both transparency and accountability have been ADDED to the legislation despite the claims to the contrary.
“This is a thinly veiled attempt to create an illusion of broad opposition to good legislation. Senate Bill 25-071 prioritizes patients, not pharmaceutical profits, which keeps dollars here in Colorado to protect access to care. Pharmaceutical companies would rather those same dollars bolster industry profits.”
Allowing pharmaceutical companies to skirt existing law enables them to claw back savings intended by Congress to benefit underserved populations, the communities they live in, and the health care workers who treat them. With SB 25-071, lawmakers have an opportunity to choose fact over fiction and honor the original intent of the 340B program.
Extremely well-funded pharmaceutical groups are pushing inaccurate and blatantly false claims to defeat legislation that would support healthy communities – and the systems of care they need. Legislators must put Colorado patients over Big Pharma profits by voting YES on SB 25-071.
