Survey Issues
Page Updated: April 22, 2024
CHA Advocacy Principle: Support transparency, communication, and shared responsibility for reforms.
What Has Been Completed:
Origin: CDPHE is the surveyor for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Background: The past few years have included a significant amount of staff surveyor turnover and subsequent stress throughout those engagements. During 2023, CDPHE undertook a rule-making process to accept feedback on how to increase fees and address the survey gap. That group recommended an annual increase by the amount of consumer price index (CPI).
Outstanding Items: CDPHE has completed its stakeholder process for feedback on changes to licensure fees. CDPHE accepted provider requests to increase all license-related fees by the rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) annually. The Board of Health will be holding a rulemaking hearing related to changes to the following rule chapters in April. To review how this change will affect individual fees, see the CPI fee table. For example, a hospital with 50 beds will see renewal license fee increase by $67.80 and a 150-bed hospital will see a fee increase by $150.68. If approved by the Board of Health, fee increases are expected to be effective July 1. Additionally, CHA continues to work with CDPHE on tools to improve collaboration and plans to provide educational opportunities to support member preparation.
