Rio Grande Hospital – The Wellness Center
Rio Grande Hospital was on a mission to improve the health of their community, patients, and employees by removing barriers to a healthy lifestyle. As a result of this goal, the Wellness Center of Rio Grande Hospital, located on the hospital’s campus, was founded in June 2024.
The Wellness Center incorporates multiple services for employees, patients, and community members within its walls including, but not limited to:
- Providing access to free educational programs
- Maintaining a greenhouse that provides fresh vegetables
- Offering patients and their families a place to stay when receiving prolonged outpatient care
The center also offers free educational programs that focus on wellness and wellbeing, such as a seven-week Well Body class, a 12-week fitness program, healthy cooking classes, meditation sessions, and more.
The above services are funded by a combination of hospital funds, donations, and grants. The greenhouse work is supported by employees, patients, and community volunteers who find joy and peace in this work.
The Wellness Center has enjoyed many successes, but one stands out: When a patient required prolonged, daily outpatient treatment, the center was able to house that patient and their family.
