Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center – Obstetric Rehabilitation Program
Hospitals and health system across Colorado continue to diligently seek ways to decrease preventable maternal mortality rates. As a result, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) implemented an Obstetric Rehabilitation Program (ORP).
As early intervention during the postpartum period has been shown to decrease the risk of cardiovascular events, the ORP is designed to complement post-natal care by improving access to care for birthing patients recovering from pregnancy and birth. Rehabilitative services and monitoring are provided to improve the birthing patients’ return to functional activities, to address common post-partum impairments, and to assist the OB care team in monitoring patients for post-partum complications.
ORP successes include the following:
- 100% of birthing patients received an order for outpatient physical therapy
- 60% of birthing patients attended at least one physical therapy visit
- Identified and provided early intervention care to multiple birthing patients who were experiencing life threatening post-partum complications.
