HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s – Placenta Accreta Center of Excellence
HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s had a vision to establish processes to ensure safe deliveries while reducing the rates of birth trauma for patients diagnosed with Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS). As a result, the Placenta Accreta Center of Excellence was established.
The goal of the center is to connect patients diagnosed with PAS with a multidisciplinary team to include maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, nurse navigators, psychologists, and advanced practitioners. This team provides mental and physical care and support for PAS patients for a full year after delivery.
Some successes include:
- Streamlining the process of delivery planning and pulling appropriate providers into the delivery plan as needed
- Increasing follow-up care to ensure patients who experienced complications have access to appropriate specialists
- Implementing trauma surveys and depression screenings to evaluate emotional well-being post delivery
