AdventHealth – No One Dies Alone
AdventHealth recognized that when patients have no family or friends available, there is a possibility that they will die alone in the hospital. As a result, the No One Dies Alone program (NODA) was implemented. The main goal of this program is to offer patients end-of-life companionship and a dignified death. As one of the committed staff members said, “We are never alone when we are born, and we should not be alone when we die.”
The program consists of a dedicated, passionate group of volunteers who undergo specialized training and serve patients by just being there. The volunteers offer support and presence by sitting quietly at the bedside, holding someone’s hand, or playing soothing music during the dying process.
The program is new to the AdventHealth system, but already dozens of volunteers have been trained. Currently, the program is being piloted at AdventHealth Parker, with the hope of scaling to other facilities in the future.
