Delta Health – Postpartum Hemorrhage Staff Education Program

Delta Health had a vision to improve maternal patient outcomes of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) by providing targeted and robust PPH education to all obstetric department staff and providers.

The educational sessions included updates on the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurse’s (AWHONN) PPH risk assessment, as well as information on medications and the importance of accurate quantitative blood loss measurement. The postpartum education methodology was developed to provide learning in a fun environment, like an “escape room” adventure.

Successes include the following:

• 80 percent of nurses attended the training
• Staff and providers enjoyed the fun and entertaining learning platform offered
• PPH risk assessment will be incorporated into the electronic health record
