Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program
Page Updated: Oct. 10, 2024
CHA Advocacy Principle: Ensure that regulations impacting employers allow for good faith efforts and flexibility that support the good of the employee.
What Has Been Completed:
Origin: Colorado voters approved Proposition 118 in November 2020, paving the way for a state-run Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program.
Background: FAMLI began providing benefits to employees on Jan. 1, 2024. Most eligible employees will receive up to twelve weeks of leave. Those who experience pregnancy or childbirth complications may receive an additional four weeks. Employer and employee premium payments and employee notification requirements began Jan. 1, 2023.
All businesses with employees are required to register with My FAMLI+ Employer here and submit wage reports for every quarter. Health care providers will play a vital role in making sure the FAMLI program is available to workers. Health care providers can find more information on their role in the process here.
