Survey Issues

Page Updated: March 11, 2024

CHA Advocacy Principle: Support transparency, communication, and shared responsibility for reforms.

What Has Been Completed:

Origin: CDPHE is the surveyor for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Background: The past few years have included a significant amount of staff surveyor turnover and subsequent stress throughout those engagements. During 2023, CDPHE undertook a rule-making process to accept feedback on how to increase fees and address the survey gap. That group recommended an annual increase by the amount of consumer price index (CPI).

Outstanding Items: CDPHE will be pursuing this change through rule-making at the Board of Health. On Jan. 8, 2024, CDPHE presented the proposed fee increases for all license-related facility fees based on CPI percentage change for calendar year 2022, as determined by the Department of Local Affairs, of 8.01 percent. CDPHE reviewed this table of proposed increases. If approved, these changes will be effective July 1. Additionally, CHA continues to work with CDPHE on tools to improve collaboration and plans to provide educational opportunities to support member preparation.
